Lutein and Zeaxanthin are carotenoids. Both are naturally found in the retina, especially in the macula, and also in the lens.
Although present in the body, they are not produced by the body and must be obtained through diet or supplements.

Zeaxanthin is also an antioxidant. In addition, both Lutein and Zeaxanthin function as light filters, absorbing certain wavelengths of sunlight—particularly effective against aggressive blue light.
